He married Eliza Alice Hylton, and had children Floyd Monroe Hylton, James Asa Hylton, Walter Abram Hylton, Samuel B Hylton, Dora L Hylton Bicker, Lydia (Hylton) Johnson, Grant Cleveland Hylton, Pearl Johnson, Della Sexton, Harry Hylton, Gettie Edmiston, and Harvey Melvin Hylton. Matthew Hylton died at age 76 years old on January 26, 1938.
