William Hylton 1865 - 1942

William Riley Hylton was born on June 8, 1865 to Riley Hylton and Hannah Hylton, and had siblings Homer Hylton, Louisa Caldwell, Mary Harman, Elizabeth Weeks, Abram Hylton, Amanda Gardner, Matthew Hylton, Lorenzo Hylton, Legona Hylton, and Ivel Hylton. He married Wilma Hylton, and had children Luther Erwin Hylton, Lula Martin, Arthur Hylton, and Chester A Hylton. William Hylton died at age 77 years old on October 13, 1942.

In 1865, in the year that William Hylton was born, on April 14th, President Abraham Lincoln was shot while attending a comedy at Ford's Theatre - Our American Cousin - in Washington, D.C. Actor and Confederate sympathizer John Wilkes Booth shot him 4 days after Lee had surrendered. The President died the next day. At almost the same time that Lincoln was shot, US Secretary of State William H. Seward and his family were attacked at home by another conspirator and Confederate sympathizer.
