Maude Myra (McBride) Davis-Trotter 1893 - 1966

Maude Myra (McBride) Trotter was born on December 18, 1893 in Tennessee United States to Joseph Thomas "J. T." McBride and Virginia (Wright) McBride, and had siblings Martha Jane (McBride) Cronon, J. E. McBride, Annie Buena McBride, William Alfred Winfield McBride, Samuel N. "Sam" McBride, Joseph Hugh McBride, Cora Francis Lou "Corrie" (McBride) Lee, and Daniel Ace "Ace" McBride. She married Robert Cleveland Trotter, and they had children Ruby Lorene (Trotter) Lovelady, Cecil Ellis "Bobby" Trotter, Hazel (Trotter) Clemons, Clarence E. Trotter, Fred C. Trotter, Martha E. Trotter, and Mary Trotter. She also married T. O. Davis, and they had a child Thomas Andrew Davis. Maude Trotter died at age 72 years old on July 17, 1966.

In 1938, Maude was 45 years old when on June 25th (a Saturday) the Fair Labor Standards Act was signed into law by President Roosevelt (along with 120 other bills). The Act banned oppressive child labor, set the minimum hourly wage at 25 cents, and established the maximum workweek at 44 hours. It faced a lot of opposition and in fighting for it, Roosevelt said "Do not let any calamity-howling executive with an income of $1,000 a day, ...tell you...that a wage of $11 a week is going to have a disastrous effect on all American industry."
