  • Introduction

    Maximilian Fisherow is the son of Wolodzia "Woldermar" Fisherow (died 1941) and Chaja Miriam Bloch (1879-1942. He was born on August 5, 1905 in Lódz, Poland and had two sisters Lydia (1907-1985) and Genia Fisherow (1914-1963). On Februrary 21, 1940 he married Thoba G. Saloman (born 1914) in New York City, New York. They had a son together, Walter B Fisherow. Maximilian enlisted in the United States military on April 5, 1943 and served until his discharge date of January 11, 1946. He was a World War II veteran. Maximilian Fisherow passed away on October 2, 1985.

In 1941, at the age of 36 years old, Maximilian was alive when on June 25th, President Roosevelt signed Executive Order 8802, prohibiting racial discrimination in the defense industry. EO 8802 was the first federal action to prohibit employment discrimination - without prejudice as to "race, creed, color, or national origin" - in the U.S. Civil Rights groups had planned a march on Washington D.C. to protest for equal rights but with the signing of the Order, they canceled the March.
