She had siblings Ethel Maggie (Twyford) Nairn, Allan Mark Twyford, William Leonard Twyford, Arthur Line Twyford, Frederick Henry Twyford, Leonard Bolton Twyford, and Elsie Jane (Twyford) Swan. She married Leonard George Gordon Nicholls in 1918, and had a child Nance Margaret Nicholls. May Nicholls died at age 56 years old on January 26, 1951 in Brisbane, QLD.

So the Japan fleet launched a surprise attack on the Russian Navy and a one year war began. President Roosevelt of the United States brokered peace between the two nations. It was the first time in the modern era that an Asian power showed its dominance over a European power.
