May Rolla (Watson) Palmer was born in 1872 in Ballarat, Ballarat City County, VIC Australia to George Wade Watson and Eliza (Nicholls) Watson, and had a brother Brereton Charles Marriott Watson. She married Howard Frederick Leslie Palmer, and died at age 66 years old in 1939 in Marrickville, Inner West Council County, NSW. May Palmer was buried at Woronora Memorial Park 121 Linden St, in Sutherland, Sutherland Shire Council County.

    The Independent, Footscray. 13th April 1901. WEDDING BELLS. PALMER.- WATSON. More than ordinary interest was taken in a wedding which took place at St. John's Church, Footscray, on Wednesday afternoon, when Miss May R. Watson, fourth daughter of the Rev. Canon Watson, was united in the holy bonds of matrimony, with the Rev. H. F. L. Palmer, of Corryong, son of the late Mr. Pemberton Palmer, of Moss Vale, N.S.W. The Church was beautifully decorated for the occasion by the girlfriends of the bride, and the building was crowded with guests and acquaintances. The ceremony was performed by the Bishop of Melbourne, Dr. Goe, ( Field Flowers Goe, Anglican Bishop ) ( 1832-1910 )

In 1872, in the year that May Rolla (Watson) Palmer was born, on May 22nd, President Ulysses S. Grant signed the Amnesty Act of 1872. The Act restored full civil rights to secessionists, including about 150,000 former slaves who had fought in the Confederate Army. About 500 former Confederate sympathizers were not allowed their full civil rights.

In 1884, she was just 12 years old when on December 6th, the Washington Monument was completed. Building began in 1848 but was stopped because of lack of funds and also due to the Civil War. It would be dedicated in 1885. At the time of its completion, it was the tallest structure in the world.
