Melvin Hondo Astroppe's History: 1919 - 1969

  • Introduction

I am actively researching Melvin and any information I can find. He is my grandpa but I don't recall ever meeting him. He is my moms, father. I have found a few verifiable details regarding his short life but have learned each fact is far and few between. I will share what I have and memorials I have created for Melvin. Although the stories I've heard growing up did not depict Melvin as the best person, he was still my grandpa and every person deserves to be remembered. I find it astronomically heart-wrenching that there are so few documents to prove he ever existed. So it is up to me to create his life story and I will make sure that my grandchildren have any records of him so they may pass them on as well. Everything happens for a reason and I'll leave this as an example. I am a member of ancestry.com and findagrave.com. I thought it would be pretty cool to create family trees for Christmas gifts this year (for my family only of course). I created a memorial for my grandma on findagrave.com at which point you can request for volunteers to visit the cemetery and upload a picture of that person's gravestone. I did this for my grandma, Melvin's wife. A very nice lady provided the picture for me. When I zoomed in to save the photo, I noticed in between my grandma and uncle Ronnie, a very small gravestone. To my amazement it is Melvin's gravestone. I have visited my grandma and uncle Ronnie's grave's a million times and never notice Melvin was right there all along. I have always been told that no one knew where he was or what ever became of him. Nonetheless, this is what started my focus on building his memory.
