When I knew Michael, around 1970, the Beatles were coming out with a beautiful song "Let it Be", which I would hear him sing on occasion. I was dating his sister at the time, and Mikey and I became very close. Time passed, his sister and I went separate ways, and Mikey joined the Navy. Tragically Mike died from burns sustained in a collision of the USS John F. Kennedy with the USS Belknap. Mike was too good for this world, so God took him up to be with Him.
I never had a brother in life. For the short time I knew him...Michael Wayne Kawola was my brother. A true hero.
