Monty Collett Wylie was born on May 9, 1905 in Mitta Mitta, VIC Australia to Douglas Blanter Wylie and Lilla (Barber) Wylie, and had siblings Arthur Lonsdale Wylie and Flora Victoria (Wylie) Bayles. He married Elsie May (Whitby) Rowland in 1935, and they were married until Monty's death on January 17, 1943. He had a child Douglas George Wylie. Monty Wylie was buried at Oakey Cemetery, in Oakey.
