Myrtie Mae Harris was born on March 26, 1874 in Skowhegan, Somerset County, Maine United States to Robert P. Harris and Sarah Ann Packard, and had siblings Olive A. (Harris) Morrill and Elmer Ellsworth Harris. She married Thomas George Lord, and had children William G. Lord, Marion Editha Lord, Helen Francis Lord, Harold Monroe Lord, and Priscilla May Lord. Myrtie Harris died at age 95 years old on May 25, 1969 in Skowhegan.

In 1874, in the year that Myrtie Mae Harris was born, on September 14th, the Battle of Liberty Place occurred in New Orleans - the capital of Louisiana. Some members of the previous Confederate Army assembled for the purpose of "driving the usurpers from power" and the Republican Governor - William P. Kellogg - was physically driven from his office. The former Confederates temporarily replaced him with (the former) Democratic Governor John McEnery. Federal forces arrived, put down the insurrection, and five days later the legally elected government was restored.

In 1887, she was only 13 years old when on January 20th, the US Senate gave the US Navy the right to lease Pearl Harbor as a naval base. Pearl Harbor is on the island of Oahu, a part of the Hawaiian Islands. The Navy was given direction to maintain "a coaling and repair station" at the harbor.
