In 1801, Nancy was 26 years old when on November 10th, the state of Kentucky outlawed dueling. The oath of office for Kentucky has since said: ""I, being a citizen of this State, have not fought a duel with deadly weapons within this State nor out of it, nor have I sent or accepted a challenge to fight a duel with deadly weapons, nor have I acted as second in carrying a challenge, nor aided or assisted any person thus offending, so help me God."
Did you know?
In 1815, when she was 40 years old, on January 18th, the Battle of New Orleans ended. General Andrew Jackson defeated a much larger invading British force in the last major battle of the War of 1812. This was after the Treaty of Ghent - signed the previous December - ended the war. But the news didn't reach the U.S. until February and the Treaty was ratified by Congress the same month. So the battle had no impact on the war.
