They was married to Tennyson B Holmes, and had children Hazel Holmes, Margarette Holmes, Tennyson Holmes Jr, Donna Holmes Hamilton, Alice Holmes Rowe, Richard Holmes, Ronnie Holmes, Madge Holmes Barrett, Ernest Holmes, and Grace Holmes. Naniva Holmes died at age 78 years old on February 27, 1993.

In 1914, in the year that Naniva Holmes was born, in June, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated by a Yugoslavian national. Austria-Hungary delivered an ultimatum to Serbia.
