I cannot tell a lie? George Washington may have said that but it's certainly not something Herman Webster Mudgett, aka H H Holmes, would have said. He couldn't tell the truth!
He was the 3rd born of Levi Horton Mudgett and Theodate Page Price, having an older brother and sister and a younger brother and sister.
Mudgett graduated from medical school in 1886 and moved to Chicago to set up a pharmacy. But he didn't stop with the pharmacy, he also built a hotel across the street which later became known as the "Murder Castle". Why? Because during the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, he was thought to lure women to the hotel, make them get life insurance in order to work for him, and then kill them. No one caught on, the women simply disappeared.
Several years later, however, a friend/accomplice in insurance fraud Ben Pritezel as well as his wife and 2 children were found murdered. Holmes was arrested in the murders. He was tried, found guilty, and hung in 1896. Per his request, his coffin was covered by concrete so no one could disturb his grave. (His request may have been influenced by the fact that when he was in medical school, he dug up graves and sold the cadavers to medical schools.)
Mudgett/Holmes sold his story to Hearst Publications for approximately a quarter of a million dollars in today's money. In that story, he claimed to have killed 130 people. When he was arrested, he claimed to have killed 27.
Holmes/Mudgett had married 3 times. He and his first wife had a son and he reportedly abused her. She left and never looked back. While still married to his first wife, he married his second wife, filing for divorce from his first wife a few weeks later (never finalized). He and his second wife had a daughter. Then while still married to his first and second wives, he married the third.

Marian Kathleen Delores (Holmes) Kroetch was born on April 21, 1929 at Montreal, in Quebec, Canada to Everett Holmes and Mildred Richards. She married Hollis Frederick Kroetch in 1965, and they were married until Marian's death on September 5, 1995. SEQUEL TO COLLISION.
Inujured in motoring accident on the Prince's Highway recently,
Mr. Selwyn Holmes, formerly of Goulburn, later had his right leg
amputated below the knee.
Mr. Holmes was riding his motor cycle between Bulli and Thirroul
when he came into collision with a motor car, the force of the impact
badly smashing his leg.

The car his cousin (& he) invented is in the Melbourne museum. Called the Thomson steam car. The Dunlop tyre was invevted for this (verbally told). Armadale Victoria. Many photos.

William Clay Holmes Jr was born to William Clay Holmes Sr (1903-1984) and Aileen Elizabeth Crawford (1908-1999). His father had a diverse career, working as a boxer, tavern keeper, cook, bus driver, steel mill crane operator, and daring stuntman, while his mother was a teacher.
After graduating from McKell High School in South Shore, Greenup County, Kentucky, USA, on May 11, 1942, William continued his education at Morehead Teachers College for two years. There, he studied subjects including College Algebra, Botany, Biology, Chemistry, and Dairy Science. Later, he pursued advanced studies, earning his Master's Degree in Education Administration from Marshall University between January 31, 1957, and August 23, 1958.
William began his teaching career in 1946 at Flat Hollow Grade School in Flat Hollow, Greenup County, Kentucky, teaching 5th to 8th-grade students for two months. He then taught Chemistry at McKell High School before becoming the Science & Biology Teacher at Portsmouth West in Portsmouth, Scioto, Ohio, USA, from 1955 to 1956.
In 1957, William transitioned to the role of Principal at Sunshine Elementary School in South Shore, Greenup, Kentucky, USA, where he served until his retirement on June 15, 1983.

In Atlanta, Bunzie started a school which became very successful and this was his life's work. Both Bunzie and his wife worked at the school. He was known as Professor Bunzie F Holmes.

Recently I discovered that my great grand mother on my father's side was Elizabeth May Patton who was married to William Fletcher Crawford Born: 14 APR 1880.
