Did you know?
In 1903, in the year that Natchez Uli was born, the book The Souls of Black Folk, written by W. E. B. Du Bois, was published. Containing several essays on the African-American experience in America, much of the book was based on Du Bois' own life. The book was one of the very early works in the science of sociology.
Did you know?
In 1912, at the age of merely 9 years old, Natchez was alive when the RMS Titanic sank in April. The RMS Titanic was a British built and run passenger liner that was billed as "unsinkable." On its maiden voyage from Southampton England to New York City, carrying about 2,224 passengers and crew - from the wealthiest people in the world to poor emigrants from Europe, the Titanic hit an iceberg. Five of her watertight compartments failed but she was designed to survive only 4 being flooded. She began to sink. There were only enough lifeboats for about half of the passengers so over 1,000 remained behind while "women and children first" were loaded. Over 1500 died, making it the largest maritime disaster in modern history.

Graceful Fashion - Popular Clothing in the 1900s
Skirts skimming the ground often with trains, high collars, big hats with lots of feathers - sometimes even with whole stuffed birds, ribbons, and flowers, the last heyday for corsets, and the rise of designer houses. 1900 through 1909 started with a continuation of the 1800's and lead to the great profile changes of the 1910's. Women's shoes had pointed toes and there was a shoe for every occasion including Oxfords, evening slippers, and boots. Gibson girl hair was all the rage, and the biggest change for men was with curled mustaches. Discover the fashion of the early 1900's.
