In 1801, at the age of just 13 years old, Nathaniel was alive when on March 4th, Thomas Jefferson was inaugurated as the third President in Washington, D.C. He was the first President to be inaugurated in Washington D.C. and the 2nd to live in the White House.

In 1811, he was 23 years old when on November 7th, the Battle of Tippecanoe was fought. American troops led by William Henry Harrison - then Governor of the Indiana Territory, later the 9th President of the United States - defeated the Native American warriors. A confederacy of Native American tribes opposed U.S. expansion into Indian Territory. but Tecumseh was gone, recruiting troops, and there was no military leader on the Native American side. The battle lasted 2 hours.
