He was a kind, hardworking, responsible, and handsome husband, father, uncle, brother and community member.
My Dad was born at home, on his parents "truck farm" on Central Avenue where they raised vegetables to sell to the city: Toledo, Ohio.
Norbert was the second child in the "line up" of six children. He had an older sister "Marian" and younger sisters: "Eleanor, Mildred and Theresa, along with two younger brothers: Joseph and Charles who was always called "Chuck." They were all raised Catholic and attended Gesu Elementary School. They lived on a "truck farm" on Central Ave. in Toledo, Ohio, near Secor Rd.
Norbert, at age nine, got called out into the hallway at school to find out that his beloved father had passed away and he was needed at home. In the coming week, the farmhouse was filled with flowers and food for his family from neighbors and relatives and as was the custom at the time, his father's body was in a casket in the living room until the day of the funeral and subsequent burial at Calvary Cemetery.
"Norb" as he was called, was the oldest boy in the family, but his maternal grandparents, his wise mother and older sister made sure he finished elementary school and began to attend his first year at Central Catholic High School.
