This is a picture of my father, Norman Allen Mort, when he was a mail carrier in Franklin County, PA.. Note the pistol stuck in his belt. At that time, rural mail carriers were allowed to carry a firearm because of holdups, as back in 1921 many people sent cash through the mail--no debit cards or ATM's then.

This postcard was sent from my grandfather, John S. N. Mort, to my father, Norman A. Mort, in January 1908. My grandfather worked on telegraph lines and was away from home a lot and stayed in touch by postcards, the practice on those days.
