He married Eliza "Lyla" Agnes Dalton (Glass) Shankly, and had children Valentine John Shankly and Norman Stephen Shankly. Norman Shankly died at age 73 years old in 1964 in Malvern, VIC, and was buried in February 1964 at Brighton General Cemetery in Caulfield South.
