Norman Wilton Osvold 1927 - 2011

Norman Wilton Osvold of Eugene, Lane County, Oregon was born on July 16, 1927 at Cushing Township, Morrison, Minnesota, United States in Morrison County, Minnesota United States to Johan Oluf Kristian Osvold and Anna Kristine (Dunnum) Osvold. He had siblings Marvin Olaf Osvold, Lester Peter Osvold, Olga Kristine (Osvold) Borg, Arthur Johan Osvold, Emma Theoline (Osvold) Craig, David Lesly Osvold, Gladys Viola (Osvold) Grant, Lilliebelle (Osvold) Harm, Rose Marie (Osvold) Ley, Mary Joan (Osvold) Steiner, and Nathan Eugene Osvold. He married Sharon Randolph on December 31, 1954 in Reno, Washoe County, Nevada and they later divorced in April 1973. He had children Charlene Teresa Osvold, Kandace Marie Osvold, Delnita Ann Osvold, and Valorie Joan Osvold. Norman Osvold died at age 83 years old on May 15, 2011, and was buried at Hazelwood Cemetery in Blackberry, Minnesota, Itasca County, MN.

    Norman's father immigrated at age twelve, with his family, from near Osvold, Norway in 1902. The family name had been Larson, but was changed in the U,S. to the name of the place they left. Norman's mother was born in Ashland, Wisconsin, but her ancestors were also from Norway, at least some of them from near Christiana (Oslo).

    Norman graduated from Maplewood Academy, a parochial high school, in Hutchinson, Minnesota, and also graduated from Walla Walla College (now University) in College Place Washington.

    In Korea he was doing dental assistant type work, helping rebuild faces.

    SPRINGFIELD — Norman W. Osvold of Springfield died May 15 of age-related causes. He was 83. No service is planned. He was born July 16, 1927, in Verndale*, Minn., to Johan and Anna Osvold. He married Sharon Randolph on Dec. 31, 1954, in Reno, Nev. She died March 28, 1978. He graduated from Maplewood Academy in Hutchinson, Minn., and Walla Walla University in College Place, Wash. He served in the Army in Korea and worked as a baker, salesman and owner of Sharon's Guest Home. Survivors include four daughters, Delnita Osvold of Hanover, Penn., Charlene Waugh of Salina, Kan., Valorie Berry of Kennewick, Wash., and Kandace Nail of Kingman, Ariz.; two brothers, Nathan of Princeton, Minn., and David; two sisters, Rosemarie Ley of Smithville, Tenn., and Mary Steiner of Oakhurst, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Burial will be June 9 at Hazelwood Cemetery in Blackberry, Minn.
