Sharon Lee Randolph was born on May 15, 1935. She was married to Norman Wilton Osvold on December 31, 1954 in Reno, Washoe County, Nevada United States and they later divorced in April 1973. She had children Charlene Teresa Osvold, Kandace Marie Osvold, Delnita Ann Osvold, and Valorie Joan Osvold. Sharon Randolph died at age 42 years old on March 28, 1978.

In 1935, in the year that Sharon Randolph was born, on September 8th, Louisiana Senator Huey Long was shot by Dr. Carl Weiss. Weiss was shot and killed immediately by Long's bodyguards - Long died two days later from his injuries. Long had received many death threats previously, as well as threats against his family. He was a powerful and controversial figure in Louisiana politics (and probably gained power through multiple criminal acts). His opponents became frustrated with their attempts to oust him and Dr. Weiss was the son-in-law of one of those opponents. His funeral was attended by 200,000 mourners.

It sold half a million copies in the first six months. Aside from the Bible, it became the best selling book of the 20th century. A generation of Baby Boomers were raised by the advice of Dr. Spock.
