Oretha Ann Watson Hendrick, daughter of the late Fletcher Watson and the late Mae Bell Coleman Watson Valentine, was born June 27, 1949 in Lunenburg County. She was reared by her grandmother, the late Hallie Mae Baskerville Coleman Tisdale. She died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006 at her home in South Hill.
At an early age she was baptized and joined the Flat Rock Baptist Church. There she remained a member until death. She was a member of the Missionary and Health Care Ministries. She attended both Lunenburg and Mecklenburg County Schools. She graduated in 1968 from East End High School and Southside Virginia Community College in Alberta.
On Jan. 15, 1971, she married Elmer Hendrick, Jr. and to this union three children were born, Angela Watson, Alma Hendrick and Yolanda Hendrick-Williams.
She was preceded in death by her brother, John Coleman; her uncle, Andrew Coleman; and her aunt, Pauline Winn.
She worked as a Unit Secretary for Community Memorial Healthcenter for 20 years. She also worked as a tax preparer for a number of years.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Elmer Hendrick, Jr. of the home; her children Angela Watson, Richmond, Alma Hendrick, Los Angeles, Calif, and Yolanda Hendrick-Williams, Richmond; two grandchildren, Cameron and Jameson Williams; three sisters, Virginia Washington, Brodnax, Roberta Watson, South Hill, and Alice Winn Brown, Valrico, Fla.; two brothers, Abraham Watson, Danville, and Elvin Coleman, South Hill; one aunt, Edwina Coleman, Pittsburgh, Pa.; one uncle, Lucius Winn, Victoria; five sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Jiggetts, Nancy Rose Watkins, Dorine Hendrick, all of South Hill, Elizabeth Coleman, Richmond and Edna Watson, Danville; six brothers-in-law, William Jiggetts, Whitney Watkins, Will Lewis Hendrick, all of South Hill, Early Johnson, Baltimore, Md., Tom Washington, Brodnax, and Gary Brown, Valrico, Fla.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 23 at Flat Rock Baptist Church in Kenbridge. The Rev. Dr. Herman Lundy officiated. Interment followed in Crestview Memorial Park in La Crosse. Feggins Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
