Orlin Herbert McClenahan of Auburndale, Polk County, Florida United States was born on April 10, 1910 in Shippen Township, Cameron County, PA to William John McClenahan and Martha Teressa McClenahan. He had siblings Helen Marie McClenahan and Ada Leona Quirk. He married Doris Irene McClenahan on October 20, 1945 in Dowagiac, Cass County, Michigan, and they were married until Orlin's death on January 25, 1970 in Auburndale, Polk County, Florida. He had children Laurel Lee Goertz, Linda Irene Gunther, Melissa Jane Wolff, David Willis McClenahan, and Daniel Clarence McClenahan. Orlin McClenahan was buried on January 30, 1970 in Auburndale.

In 1927, at the age of 17 years old, Orlin was alive when the first "talkie" (a movie with music, songs, and talking), The Jazz Singer, was released. Al Jolson starred as a cantor's son who instead of following in his father's footsteps as expected, becomes a singer of popular songs. Banished by his father, they reconcile on his father's deathbed. It was a tear-jerker and audiences went wild - especially when they heard the songs. Thus begun the demise of silent films and the rise of "talkies".
