Paul Zettler was born in 1889 to Rudolph Alvin Zettler and Wilhelmina (Minnie) Grunberg Zettler, and had siblings Louis Frederick Zettler, Emil J. O. Zettler, Alvina Zettler Kleven, Amanda Zettler O'Brien, and Louise Johanna Zettler Reeve. Paul Zettler died at age 29 years old in 1918.

In 1889, in the year that Paul F Zettler was born, on March 31st, the Eiffel Tower was inaugurated. Because the elevators were not yet in operation, officials had to climb to the top of the tower - it took an hour. On May 15th, the Tower opened to the public - still without working elevators - but around 30,000 visitors still made the climb. The elevators went into operation on the 26th. The Tower wasn't considered aesthetically pleasing at the time but is now one of the most iconic structures in the world.

In 1890, he was just 1 year old when on June 1st, the U.S. Census Bureau started tabulating census returns with punch cards. Herman Hollerith's "tabulating machine" used punch cards to more quickly compute census information, taking the time to get census results from 8 years in 1880 to 6 years for the 1890 census. Hollerith's company eventually became IBM.
