    Paul Kushel was born on March 21, 1909 in Pennsylvania to parents Herman and Rebecca Kushel. He was the oldest of three and had two younger sisters Hellen and Della. He lived in West York and Harrisburg, Dauphin, Pennsylvania and worked as a salesman. He was a high school graduate and had also completed 2 years of college. Paul enlisted in the US Army on January 28, 1944, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Paul's initial rank was Private, Selectees (enlisted Men). As a new recruit, he would have undergone basic training to prepare for combat duties. His service in the military lasted from January 28, 1944, until March 17, 1946. Paul was married to S Dorothy Kushel and they had a son together, Melvill B Kushel.
