Perlene Movella "Penny" Perry is the daughter of John David Perry (1880-1951) and Hattie Rojean Choate (1891-1925). She was born on April 18, 1925 in Wynnewood, Garvin County, Oklahoma and had siblings Walter (1911-1981), Lucinda (1914-2004), Verdie Elizabeth (1916-2008), Katie Lee (1921-1990), and Tama Mae Perry (1923-1999). They grew up in Jefferson County Oklahoma. She first married Wilford Emmitt Layton (1923-1969) and had children together including Patricia Joyce Layton Fowler (1943-2018), Charles Wayne Layton (1945-2020), and Kelly Lynn Layton (1951-2005). He passed away, and Penny later married Nick John Nemsgern (1922-2000) on February 6, 1984 in Moore, Texas, USA. They were together until his death. She was a homemaker and loved to cook, do crafting projects and take care of the elderly.

Penny Nemsgern, 85, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2010. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, August 2, in Morrison Memorial Chapel with Rev. Brad Foster, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Lane Memorial Cemetery, Sunray, by Morrison Funeral Directors. Penny Nemsgern was born April 18, 1925 in Wynnewood, Oklahoma to John David and Hattie Rojean Perry. She was a homemaker and loved to cook, do crafting projects and take care of the elderly. She always had a tender place in her heart for Safeplace and was always eager to help in any capacity. She had been a resident of Dumas since 1982 and a former resident of Sunray since 1969. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Chuck Layton in 1969; her second husband, Nick Nemsgern in 2000; her son, Kelly Layton in 2005; 4 sisters and 1 brother. Survivors include; daughters, Pat Fowler of Claude and Debbie Peek of Amarillo; sons, Charlie Layton of Childress and Bryant Layton of Claremore, Okla; 17 Grandchildren; 32 Great-grandchildren; and 3 Great-Great-Grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Meals on Wheels, PO Box 1535, Dumas, TX 79029.
