In 1818, at the age of merely 15 years old, Peter was alive when on October 20th, the Treaty of 1818 - between the U.S. and the United Kingdom - established the boundary between the U.S. and British North America as the 49th parallel north. The treaty also allowed for joint occupation and settlement of the "Oregon Country" - known currently as the Pacific Northwest of the United States and British Columbia in Canada.
