Uncover new discoveries and connections today by sharing about people & moments from yesterday.
  • Introduction

Rachel Copelan devoted her entire adult life to helping people with their problems through hypnosis in person and through her 5 books. When I was in great pain in the hospital in Washington DC she took a train from New York City to hypnotize me and take away my pain. I told her that she was going to be a successful author and in gratitude she mention me in her books by my married name "Sandra." Rachel had a long life [92] and was devoted to helping others.

Author and Hypnotist. Dear, lovely Rachel: I met you over 40 years ago in New York. You were with my mom and eventually, both of you moved to LA. I moved to LA several years after that and we reconnected. Rachel, I never met a woman quite like you. We instantly formed a deep bond and I knew that I could trust and learn so much from you. My family and I did, over and over again. You became a part of our family, sharing in many of our most special occasions, from the birth of our children to celebrating the Jewish holidays at my home. You were a blessing to be around and quite a character as well. You had a way of helping to take the edge off tensions in a group. We all loved and appreciated you so. Your warmth and unconditional love and committment to all who knew you and to all who came to you for guidance, was unsurpassed. You wore your heart and soul on your sleeve. Your love for life, your uplifting spirit, your humor, your calmness in the face of disaster, and your remarkable creativity were some aspects of the beautiful human being who we will miss so much. You'll be in my heart always. I shall talk to you in prayers and meditations, and feel your presence. I can hear your voice and still learn from the many tapes you made for me. So, beautiful Rachel, I want to thank you for being in my life and helping me to become a better person. With all my love and appreciation, Marsha Marsha Wolinsky
  • Personal Life & Family

June 28, 2008 Rachel was my dearest and best friend for over 40 years, when we both lived in NYC and ended up in L.A. I remember the many nights in NY that we spent after midnight at the Stage Deli, where many performers came after ending their gigs, such as Woody Allen, Joan Rivers and a host of others. Rachel performed a hypnosis act at the Improv in NYC. She moved to Miami Beach where she had a radio talk show, and was friendly with Larry King. I moved to L.A. and convinced her to move here. We were the closest and best of friends, going to movies, dinner and was my traveling companion, sharing our innermost thoughts and feelings. She was an integral and loved part of my family. She was a dear, kind and wonderful human being, besides being a multi-talented artist, writer, lecturer and therapist. She always said we would grow old together. I loved her dearly. She will be sorely missed. Rest in peace, dear friend. Helen Samett

  • Obituary

June 30, 2008 Dr. Rachel Copelan was so many things. A U.S. Delegate to the World Congress on Sexology. A Behavior Therapist (a Ph. D with 26 years of private practice). She has been listed in The Journal of Psychosomatic Medicine as one of the World’s Leading Medical Hypnotist, was the author of six world-wide best-sellers (The Sexually Fulfilled Man [11 foreign editions], The Practical Guide to Becoming the Sexually Fulfilled Woman, A Woman’s Achievements [in Australia, it was called The New Female], 100 Ways to Make Sex Sensational and 100% Safe, How to Hypnotize Yourself and Others [worldwide], and Advanced Hypnotism (A Know-It-All Guide). But more than any of these, she was a mother to her son Jeff and to me a wonderful mentor and a dear friend. More than almost anyone I know, Dr. Rachel (as I called her) had lived an adventurous and full life, taking and spreading her wisdom, relentlessly teaching and sharing her constant cheer and positive attitude (which she kept until the very last moment) all over the world!

13 Memories, Stories & Photos about Rachel

August 10, 2017
I told Rachel Copelan that she was going to write 4 books. I finally convinced her. She mentioned me as "Sandra" in the first book. I insisted that she join my friends as we celebrated the Moon Landing at Hawaii Kai in New York and then walk over to her Central Park South apartment to watch it on her TV set. The whole time she kept asking me, "Why are you making such a big deal over this?" And I said, "From the day you were born, until the die you die, this will be the greatest American achievement you will ever see in your lifetime!" Well, the luncheon was lavish and delicious, and we had a great time, but when we saw the actual Moon Landing she burst into tears and applauded and said, "Now I understand it!" I call her up in 1995 and she said she was still writing books because of me.
