Ray Douglas Bradbury of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California United States was born on August 22, 1920 in Waukegan, Lake County, IL to Leonard Spaulding Bradbury Sr. and Esther Marie Bradbury. He had a brother Leonard Spaulding Bradbury Jr.. He married Marguerite Susan Bradbury on September 27, 1947 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, CA, and they were married until Marguerite's death on November 24, 2003 in Los Angeles. He had children Susan Gloria Nixon, Ramona (Bradbury) Ostergen, Bettina Francion Karapetian, and Alexandra Allison Bradbury. Ray Bradbury died at age 91 years old on June 5, 2012 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, CA, and was buried on June 9, 2012 at Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park & Mortuary 1218 Glendon Ave., in Los Angeles.

In 1920, in the year that Ray Douglas Bradbury was born, on November 2, radio station KDKA began broadcasting in Pittsburgh, PA. This was the first commercial radio broadcast in the United States. Westinghouse, a leading manufacturer of radios and the backer of the station, chose the date because of the Presidential election. People liked it because they could hear about the results of the election between Harding and Cox before the morning papers arrived. Four years later, there were 600 commercial stations broadcasting in the U.S.

In 1937, he was 17 years old when on May 28th, the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge opened to cars. Taking 5 years to build, the 4,200-foot-long suspension bridge was an engineering marvel of its time - 11 men died during construction. The "international orange" color was chosen because it resisted rust and fading. To the present, it is the symbol of the City that is known throughout the world.
