Reuben Horace Parry was born in 1897 in Healesville, Yarra Ranges Shire County, VIC Australia to Thomas Parry and Isabella Jane (Hetherton) Parry, and had siblings Alfred Robert Parry, Ernest Hetherton Parry, James Parry, Thomas Parry, Bertrand Parry, Amy Elizabeth (Parry) Bevan, Lillian Isabel (Parry) Valentine, and Margaret Ruth Dobell. He married Isabella Barbara (Connell) Parry, and had children Ronald Parry, Dorothy Parry, Beryl Parry, and June Parry. Reuben Parry died at age 49 years old on May 21, 1947 at St. Vincent's Hospital Melbourne 41 Victoria Parade, in Fitzroy, City of Yarra County, and was buried at Fawkner Memorial Park 1187 Sydney Rd, in Fawkner, Moreland City County.

In 1897, in the year that Reuben Horace Parry was born, on September 21st, editor and publisher Francis P. Church responded to a letter to the editor from Virginia O'Hanlon, 8 years old. Virginia's father had told her that "If you see it in The Sun, it's so." So she wrote to the Sun, asking if there was a Santa Claus. Church responded with the now famous editorial "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus".

In 1919, he was 22 years old when in the summer and early autumn, race riots erupted in 26 U.S. cities, resulting in hundreds of deaths and even more people being badly hurt. In most cases, African-Americans were the victims. It was called the "Red Summer". Men who were returning from World War I needed jobs and there was competition for those jobs among the races. Tension was heightened by the use by many companies of blacks as strikebreakers.
