Thomas Parry was born in 1856 to Robert Parry and Margaret Britt. He was in a relationship with Isabella Jane (Hetherton) Parry, and had children Amy Elizabeth (Parry) Bevan, Alfred Robert Parry, Lillian Isabel (Parry) Valentine, Margaret Ruth Dobell, Reuben Horace Parry, Ernest Hetherton Parry, James Parry, Thomas Parry, and Bertrand Parry. Thomas Parry died at age 63 years old in 1919.

In 1856, in the year that Thomas Parry was born, on May 21st, Lawrence Kansas was ransacked and burned by pro-slavery forces. Called the "Sacking of Lawrence", it was part of the "Bleeding Kansas" war between pro-slavery and antislavery settlers.

In 1878, he was 22 years old when on June 15th, photographer Eadweard Muybridge - at the request of Leland Stanford - produced the first sequence of stop-motion still photographs. Stanford contended that a galloping horse had all four feet off the ground. Only photos of a horse at a gallop would settle the question and, using 12 cameras and a series of photos, Muybridge settled the question: Stanford was right. Muybridge's use of several cameras and stills led to motion pictures.
