  • Nationality & Locations

Rhonda was born in Rockford, Illinois. By the time her brother, Barry, was born, census records indicate the family lived in Wisconsin, in Rock County. After her parents divorced, she moved with her mom and brother to Southern California, settling in the Orange County area. During her second marriage, she moved for a time to Brainerd, Minnesota, later returning to Southern California. After her second marriage ended, she moved to the Tupelo, Mississippi area to be close to her half-sister and her family. When her third husband, Oliver Pennington, died, she moved to St. Louis, Missouri, to be close to her brother and sister-in-law, and also to be close to a MLB stadium. Her half sister joined her in St. Louis in late 2016 to assist her, as Rhonda had been diagnosed with RA earlier that year. They lived together until her death.
  • Early Life & Education

Rhonda graduated from Savanna High School in Anaheim, California, in 1965. She attended UC Irvine, but did not complete a degree.
  • Military Service

Rhonda was not a military veteran, but her third husband was an Air Force Veteran. Her father was a World War II veteran, and many of her cousins went to Vietnam, as well as high school acquaintances. Rhonda was a child during the Korean conflict, and a teenager and young adult during Vietnam. She lived through multiple military actions in her lifetime.
  • Professional Career

Rhonda worked many places, including working as a social worker for the welfare department, at a state hospital in Minnesota, and as a librarian. She retired from the US Postal Service.
  • Personal Life & Family

Rhonda was a premier baker. She took cake decorating classes and was extremely talented in making beautiful creations. Her pie crust was second to none, and her chocolate pies were requested at many functions. Her custard pies were a staple for her mother for Mother's Day, and later for her half-sister for Mother's Day and birthdays. She was an expert seamstress and quilter. She spent many hours creating heirlooms for her family and others. She sewed from a young age, as well as embroidering, cross stitch, latch hook rugs, crocheting and knitting. Her quilts leave a legacy of her incredible talent. She was a Bible scholar as well, and had a good knowledge of scripture. Her clear soprano could be heard in choirs or in congregational singing her entire life. She LOVED baseball! From a young age, she recalled going to Wrigley Field to see the Cubs play. While in California, she was a devout Angels fan, and always watched games or followed along with all the teams. After moving to St. Louis, she attended as many Cardinals games as possible, with a highlight being able to attend a playoff game in 2011 with her brother and sister in law at Busch Stadium. She also loved old movies and mystery books. She was always reading a mystery, even if for the 100th time, and old movies and musicals were often playing in her home. She listened to classical music or older Broadway show tunes. She went to the Muny in St. Louis quite often, always sitting in the free seats for whatever show happened to be playing.
