    Richard Carroll “Rc” Brister BIRTH 27 Jun 1934 San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas, USA DEATH 4 Jan 2011 (aged 76) BURIAL Donated to Medical Science 6/27/1934 – 1/4/2011 RC fought a terrific battle with cancer but there were just too many tigers to fight and cancer took its toll. He was born in San Angelo, Texas to, Rayford Allen Brister and Margaret Ann (Old) Brister and was raised in San Antonio. In high school he was an outstanding athlete in all sports, attaining statewide recognition in both football and tennis. He attended Hardin Simmons University and Arlington State on football scholarships and graduated from Southwest Texas State University with multiple degrees. He coached sports in several schools spanning four decades. In Galveston County he coached in Blocker Middle School in the early 1960’s and was Athletic Director and head football coach at Santa Fe High School for several years. Carroll was a consummate student of athletics and had an uncanny ability to motivate kids to perform well above levels expected of kids with comparable physical attributes. He had five daughters: Ricque Lynn, Melissa Carroll, Kerry Lee, Robin Renee, and Mitzi Glynn, and one son: Richard Carroll Jr., a step-son Christopher Sell, and Alvin Cook who was no blood relation but Carroll thought of as a son. He left a brother, Rayford Brister, and half- brothers Jimmy and Howard Brister and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews and his ‘soul mate’ Karen Morehead. A memorial service is schedule for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 12, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Santa Fe. While he loved his flowers and plants he loved his fellow man more. Rather than sending flowers that would wilt in just a few days he would much prefer that donations be made in his honor to: UTMB to Support Research Development Office 301 University Blvd. Galveston, Texas 77555-0148 That’s where he donated his body.
