Richard John Barrow 1849 - 1918

Richard John Barrow was born in 1849 to John Barrow and Emma (Percival) Barrow. He married Charlotte Eleanor (Harris) Barrow on September 22, 1875, and they were married until death separated them. He had children Lionel Richard Barrow, Stella Broughton (Barrow) Thomas, Dulcie Eleanor (Barrow) Brabin, John Varian Barrow, and Lucy Emma Barrow. Richard Barrow died at age 69 years old in 1918 in Marrickville, Inner West Council County, NSW Australia.

In 1855, by the time he was merely 6 years old, on March 3rd, Congress appropriated $30,000 to create the U.S. Camel Corps. The idea was to use camels as pack animals in the Southwest and 34 camels were bought. But the Army wasn't enthusiastic about the idea and after the Civil War the Camel Corps was entirely abandoned.
