Harris was born on November 7, 1945 to Dorothy June "June" (Bryan) Harris and Dwight Wesley Harris, and had siblings Patricia Ann "Pattie" (Harris) Gilliland, Charles Bryan "Chuck" Harris, Mary Celeste (Harris) Skaggs, Sheila Ann (Harris) Boyer, and Audrey Jane (Harris) Amos. He married Donna (Agnew) Harris, and had children Michael "Mike" Harris and Joseph Harris. Robert Harris died at age 64 years old on March 7, 2010 in Tampa, Hillsborough County, Florida United States.

    TAMPA, FLORIDA — Rob (Robert D.) Harris, age 64 passed away Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Memorial Hospital, Tampa, Florida. Rob was preceded in death by his father, Dwight W. Harris, Park Hills, MO. He is survived by his mother, June Harris; his wife of forty-six years, Donna (Agnew) Harris, of Tampa, Fla. Two sons Michael (Mandy) Harris of Desloge, MO., and Joseph Harris, Washington, D.C., four grandchildren Andrew, Katie, Ryne, and Josh of Desloge, Mo., one brother Chuck (Linda) Harris, Farmington, MO., four Sisters, Sheila (Jim) Boyer, Farmington, MO; Jane (Mike) Amos, Russellville, MO.; Mary Skaggs, Desloge, MO. and Patti (Bruce) Gilliland, Bonne Terre, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends from the local area. Rob worked as the Comptroller for Epperson & Co., Tampa, FLA., for twenty-three years. He was a Vietnam War veteran serving in the Green Beret and was and avid racing enthusiast. Rob also served as a Counselor for AA for twenty years in Tampa, FLA. A Memorial service was held at Blount & Curry Funeral Homes, Tampa, Florida, on March 10, 2010. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 11207 Blue Heron Blvd North, St Petersburg, FL 33716 or the American Cancer Society 2006 West Kennedy Blvd, Tampa, FL 33606.

In 1945, in the year that Robert D. "Rob" Harris was born, on August 6th, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. On August 9th, an atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. At least 129,000 people were killed in the two bombings and they still remain the only use of atomic bombs in war. An invasion on mainland Japan had been planned but President Truman ordered the bombs dropped instead.

In 1957, by the time he was merely 12 years old, on September 24th, the "Little Rock Nine" (nine African-American students) entered Little Rock High School. Arkansas Gov. Orval Faubus had previously prevented the students from entering the school at the beginning of the term with the Arkansas National Guard - they blocked the door. President Eisenhower ordered federal troops - the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army - to guard the students and allow them entry.
