He married Mary Emma (Perks) Shalders in 1908, and had children Eileen Alice Louisa Shalders Gray, Dorothy May Shalders, Lorna Jean Shalders, and Mavis Elsie Shalders. Robert Shalders died at age 62 years old on February 18, 1942 in Geelong West, Greater Geelong City County.
