He married Elizabeth Ann Teresa (Welch) Cameron, and had children David James Cameron, Elizabeth Teresa (Cameron) Walsh, Caroline Mary (Cameron) Murray, Robert James Binger Jr., Edith Cameron, and Ethel (Cameron) Madigan. Robert Cameron died at age 53 years old on October 6, 1906 in Fremantle, WA Australia, and was buried on October 8, 1906 at Fremantle Cemetery in Palmyra.

  • Introduction

    When the gold petered out in the Whroo and Rushworth vicinity of Victoria, some of the Cameron and Welch family members, headed to the new goldfields at Kalgoorlie in Western Australia. Gold was discovered in 1892 at Fly Flat, now Coolgardie by Arthur Bayley and William Ford. In 1893 three Irish prospectors headed north east from Coolgardie after hearing rumours of other gold finds, they were Patrick"Paddy" Hannan, Tom Flannagan and Dan Shea, they found some gold nuggets whilst looking for a lost horse, in the area now known as Kalgoorlie. Kallaroo was a gold mining town between Kalgoorlie and Boulder. The Kalgoorlie Miner. January 1909. ITEMS OF NEWS. The Kallaroo Suicide. The inquest into the death of the old man James Parker, who was found hanging in his camp at Kallaroo on Thursday afternoon. March 1948. Train Hits Truck. An ore truck belonging to the North Kalguril gold mine was struck by a train at the Kallaroo crossing, midway between Kalgoorlie and Boulder, about 6:30 pm on Saturday... June 1937. PETROL COACH AND TRUCK COLLIDE. A motor truck was badly damaged when it collided with the Railways Department's petrol coach at the Kallaroo crossing early yesterday, but no one was injured. January 1943. Spectacular Blaze. Bitumen Supplies Destroyed. When the bitumen-mixing pot of the Kalgoorlie Road Board, at Kallaroo, east of the trotting ground, boiled over yesterday morning, it caused a fire which resulted in the almost total destruction of the road board supplies of bitumen and tar. January 1914. Kallaroo Burning Fatality. Inquest into the death of Mrs. Mary Ann Murphy, of Kallaroo, who died in the Kalgoorlie Government Hospital on January 3, following burns received at her home whilst engaged in the preparation of her husbands tea, when her dress became ignited by contact with a primus stove which she was using, and she was terribly burned before the flames could be extinguished.

    The Kalgoorlie Miner, October, 1906. CAMERON.-Robert, late of Whroo, Victoria, and late of Kallaroo, died at Fremantle on the 6th day of October, after a short illness. Buried this day, (Monday). The funeral to leave Davis & Co.'s. Undertakers, Market-street, this Monday 8th, for Fremantle Cemetery.
