Roman was born in the southern region of Poland when it was owned by Russia. He grew up on a farm and immigrated to the U. S. He joined the US Calvary and served in General Pershing's Mexican 1916 Expeditionary Force of 6,000 to capture Pancho Via after Via attacked 2 American border towns. He showed me his grandson, Robert, a photo of himself as a blond young man in calvary uniform with his horse. He also showed me a commendation signed by President Woodrow Wilson for taking part in the Mexican Expeditionary force. He worked as a bus driver for Public Service bus company in New Jersey for 30 years until he retired. He was of Polish descent and was a member of the Polish-American Republican Club and the VFW. Married to Lottie, his son Henry Dominic was my father who dropped the "z" from his last name to Americanize it and make it easier to pronounce. Henry married my mother, Tessie C. Podeszfinski, (nee Rawa) during WW2.
