Ronald Ernest Bryan 1889 - 1967

Ronald Ernest Bryan was born in September 1889 in Ondit, Colac Otway Shire County, VIC Australia to William Bryan and Margaret Bryan, and had a sister Margaret Ann Euphemia (Bryan) Searle. He married Mamie Albertha (Thomas) Bryan, and they were married until death separated them. He had children Kenneth Edward Bryan, Eunice (Bryan) Mitting, and Neil Ronald Bryan. Ronald Bryan died at age 78 years old on October 27, 1967 in Geelong, Greater Geelong City County.

In 1889, in the year that Ronald Ernest Bryan was born, on May 31st, the South Fork Dam collapsed. Located in western Pennsylvania, the dam failed - sending more than 20 million tons of water into the towns below it. The flood killed more than 2,200 people in and around Johnstown. The newly formed Red Cross responded to the disaster.

In 1900, Ronald was only 11 years old when the U.S. helped put down Boxer Rebellion. The Boxer Rebellion took place in China, where the presence of "outsiders" (foreigners) was resented. The United States, along with Austria-Hungary, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, and Russia, had business interests in China and these countries all sent troops to put down the Rebellion and keep China open to their presence and to Christian missionaries.
