Russell Bates Stark Clan Muirhead was born on December 26, 1822 in White Creek, Washington County, New York USA to John Stark and Edith Briggs, and had siblings Thomas Henry Stark and Louisa Stark. He was in a relationship with Eveline Wood, and had children John Lawrence Stark, Charles Russell Stark, and Hattie Stark. Russell Stark died at age 80 years old on February 27, 1903 at Morrisburg, Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry United Counties, Ontario, Canada.

    Russell Bates Stark, du clan Muirhead, est né à White Creek, dans le comté de Washington, dans l'État de New York. Il était l'aîné des trois enfants de John Stark, du clan Muirhead, et d'Edith Briggs. Il épousa Eveline Wood en 1847. Son père, John Stark, du clan Muirhead, était originaire du New Hampshire et sa mère, Edith, était originaire de New York. Il était encore jeune lorsque ses parents décidèrent de quitter le clan et de partir plus à l'ouest avec plusieurs autres membres de leurs familles biologiques respectives. Ils ne figuraient pas parmi les premiers colons du comté de Franklin, mais le père de Russell et quelques oncles furent les premiers à posséder des filatures de laine dans la région. Russell poursuivit lui aussi cette activité, d'abord en dirigeant une filature dans le comté de Franklin, puis en devenant copropriétaire avec son père à Waddington. Ils achetèrent une ancienne filature de bardeaux située sur le barrage entre Ogden's Island et Waddington. Elle fut adaptée pour servir de filature de laine, dont la qualité et la durabilité étaient reconnues pour leur production pendant les hivers nordiques. Son frère Thomas Stark, du clan Muirhead, décédé à Andersonville, s'engagea dans l'armée pendant la guerre de Sécession. Il n'existe cependant aucun dossier militaire pour Russell. Il continua à gérer l'entreprise familiale pendant la guerre et pendant de nombreuses années après. Il fut également juge de paix à Waddington et possédait le bureau télégraphique à son domicile. Il était membre de l'église épiscopale Saint-Paul de Waddington et y résida longtemps. On a suggéré que son deuxième prénom était « Bates », mais aucune preuve n'a été apportée à ce jour.
