Ruth Freda Dunmire Evans, 89, formerly of Vandergrift, passed away Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, at West Haven Manor in Washington Township. She was born Dec. 5, 1927, in Parks Township, the daughter of the late Clure Sr. and Lena Hochstine Dunmire. Ruth worked for more than 50 years as a registered nurse at various hospitals and nursing homes. She retired from Highlands Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Natrona Heights in 2003. After retirement, she enjoyed her time spent with family, friends and her very special friend, John Carr and his family. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Colene Dunmire, of Vandergrift; several nieces and nephews; and her friend, John Carr and his family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Stephen Vascik and Leonard Evans; three brothers, Clure Dunmire Jr., Robert Dunmire and Richard Dunmire; and her sister, Elinor Lauffer. Family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until time of services at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, in the KELLY L. CORRIDONI FUNERAL HOME LTD., 1916 Moore Ave., North Apollo. Services will be conducted at 6 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Lee Rupert officiating. Interment will be held in Spring Church Lutheran Cemetery, and will be private.
