He married Mahala "Hala" (Jones) Martin, and had children Dexter Martin, J. L. Martin, N. A. Martin, and Flem Dalton Martin. Samuel Martin died at age 37 years old on June 15, 1944.

    OBIT. The Corbin Daily Tribune, Corbin, KY Friday Afternoon, June 16, 1944, page 1.... MARTIN FUNERAL SATURDAY AT 2PM ------------------ Samuel Martin, 38. years of age died at his home on Barbourville Hill at 1 PM. Funeral services will be held Saturday 2PM at the Grays Holiness Church. The Rev Bob Brynat, Rev Edd Spurlock, and Rev Wesley Shotwell officiating. Interment will be at the Martin Cemetery by Kincaid Funeral Home. He is survived by Wife, Mahalie Martin, four daughters, Dexter Frances, Edna Rachel, Mary Ruth, and Goldie Rea,four sons, J.L., N.A., F.D., and John Samuel, one stepson, Hobart Hutton, one sister, Mrs. C.F. Black of Corbin, two brother's, James Martin of Grays, and C.A. Martin of Corbin. The active pallbearers are-Connie Thomas, Dave Root, Ray Martin, Chester Martin, Clint McCowan, and Jim Lockhart...
