Passmore Sisters
I’ve “rescued” an old photograph of three young ladies which was taken at the Johnston Studio in Belleville, KS sometime in the 1890’s. The message on the back of the photograph says “Here we are looking at you” and is it signed by Sadie PASSMORE to Mrs. EUSTICE with compliments. I believe that Sadie is likely one of the young ladies in the photograph based on that message, but I don’t know who the others might be, or what their relationship to Mrs. EUSTICE might be, their teacher maybe. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Sadie and what may be at least one of her sisters (Grace PASSMORE) in the photograph as well:
Sarah Esabel “Sadia” or “Sadie” PASSMORE was b. 23 Feb 1884 in Belleville, KS to parents Henry Gabriel PASSMORE (1845-1929) and Margaret “Maggie” FAGAN (1855-1944). She was one of 14 children born to this couple including, Anna Laura; Mary “Mayme” Catherine; Mary Jane; Alice Maud; Johnny; Grace Idona; Sadie; Willie; Maggie May; Myrtle or Myrnee H.; Charles “Charlie” Gabriel or R.; Walter Edwin; Donald; and Harry PASSMORE all born between 1873 and 1897. Sadie married Charles Benjamin CARBUTT (1883-1981) and together they had two children, Enid M. CARBUTT (b. 1906); and Cyrus or Syrus Gabriel CARBUTT (1908-1988). Sadie died 31 Mar 1944 in Talmo, KS.
Census records provide the following details:
1900 census of Grant, KS:
Henry G. PASSMORE, age 54, born Dec 1845, married 29 years, born IL, parents born OH/KY, a Farmer
Maggie PASSMORE, wife, age 46, born Mar 1854, married 29 years, 12 children/6 living, born PA, parents born Ireland

Charlie R. PASSMORE, son, age 8, born Nov 1891, born KS, at School

I am hoping to locate someone from the family so that this wonderful old treasure can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of the family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me.
Thanks,
Shelley
