  • Introduction

    Serpouhi "Susie" Mardirossian, Known as "Susie" worked at Clark's, the best clothing store in Jackson Heights, doing alterations, and when the store closed she worked at Saks Fifth Avenue. Her family were victims of the Armenian Holocaust and orphaned children were sent all over the world but were still raised as Armenians. Some children, as well as Susie were sent to an orphanage in Denmark but they were not raised as Danes. Susie didn't speak Danish. While working for Saks Fifth Avenue, Susie suffered a heart attack. When she recovered, she needed a job. Her old boss, the owner of Clark's, the amiable and beautiful Gertrude Weiss, needed a caregiver. I suggested that she call her son Mark and ask for $100 a day. Mark immediately hired her. Susie kept the job until Gertrude decided to move to Florida. Susie who was sharing an apartment with her on decided to stay in Elmhurst, Queens with her adult son.

We shared many lunches together.
If we met on the street, we immediately had lunch together.
She altered my clothes for my trip to Greece.
I got her a great job when she needed one as a caregiver for her old boss.
