Introduction

Silas Frank Seadler was the head of advertising for Metro-Goldwin-Mayer for fifty years. He was endlessly cheerful and had a great sense of humor. Si was well known for being a fabulous dancer and movie stars loved to dance with him. At Judy Garland's party at El Morocco after her opening at the Palace on Broadway, she danced with Si Seadler. I was there. In his old age, he became the head of Special Projects for M.G.M. and I helped him publicize movies and have a scrapbook filled with my ideas that came to fruition. He was more fun to be with than anyone else in my life.

NEW YORK TIMES OBITUARY SILAS F. SEADLER Published: February 25, 1981 Silas F. (Si) Seadler, for 40 years Eastern advertising manager for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures, died Feb. 19 in Poconos Hospital in Stroudsburg, Pa. He was 83 years old. He lived in Bushkill, Pa., and Manhattan. Mr. Seadler was working for the Goldwyn Company when it was merged in the mid-20s's with the Mayer Company, and he was involved in the creation and execution of M-G-M advertising campaigns through the mid-60's. A habit Mr. Seadler had of enclosing a little sketch in his notes and letters formed the basis of one advertising effort. Surviving are a son, Stephen of Princeton, N.J.; a sister, Miriam Polowe of Paterson, N.J., and two grandchildren Carin and Einar Seadler.
