Simone was born in Brussels, Belgium. She was there during the occupation of Germany. She would tell me stories of trying to learn German in school and that her family would hand make everything. Since there were starving they secretly went to the black market. She believed that her father and then later her brother for the unground resistance.

Simone was born in Brussels she met my grandfather when his Army unit ended up in Belgium where they got married and had their first child together. My grandfather eventually moved back home and about one month later she took a boat to join him in America where they lived in New Jersey for several years until they moved to South Carolina.

Simone loved to croquet. She made several afghans over her lifetime and had made some doll clothes. She loved to bake and had the most delicious chocholate chip and oatmeal cookies.
