    Stella Jay traveled with her mother and siblings on the Empress of Ireland as 3rd class. The family was traveling to England to visit a relative. Empress of Ireland collided with Norwegian liner at 2:00 AM in middle of a fog at Saint Lawrence river and sank in only 14 minutes. Most 3rd class passengers were trapped below the flooded lower decks during the collision. Stella perished in the sinking with her mother and 4 siblings. None of their bodies were found.
