He married Elizabeth Jones Moodie in 1875, and had children Elizabeth Charlotte Moodie, Lily Moodie, Alexander Leonard Moodie, Ada May (Moodie) Leyden, Olive Amelia Moodie, Annie Robertson Moodie, William John Moodie, Ida Martha Moodie, Alma Grace Moodie, Wilfred Stephen Moodie, Hubert Carlisle Robertson Moodie, and Lilly Moodie. Stephen Moodie died at age 54 years old in 1906 in Avoca.
