Thomas Frank Morkham 1844 - 1922

Thomas Frank Morkham of Gladstone Avenue - Malvern, in Melbourne, VIC Australia was born in January 1844 at 7 Great Stanhope Street, in Bath, Bath and North East Somerset County, England United Kingdom to Thomas Morkham and Elizabeth (Davis) Morkham. Thomas Morkham had siblings Jane Elizabeth (Morkham) Bonney, Emily Morkham, and Henry John Morkham. He married Josephine Jameson Gofton (Izod) Morkham in January 1868, and they were married until Josephine's death in 1873. They had children Florence Josephine Morkham, Percy Vivian Morkham, and Joseph Alfred Morkham. He married Anne (Prender) Morkham on September 22, 1874, and they were married until Anne's death on September 6, 1906. They had children Ernest Vivian Morkham and Frank Prender Morkham. Thomas Morkham died at age 78 years old on March 19, 1922 at Gladstone Avenue, in Malvern, Stonnington City County, VIC Australia.

    IMMIGRATION Thomas arrived in Victoria in 1853 and lived in Geelong. MARRIAGE RECORD Victorian Register of Births, Death & Marriages Registration Number: 313/1868 FAMILY NOTICES MARRIAGE MORKHAM-IZOD - On the 3rd Jan., at the residence of the bride's father, by the Rev. J. C. Crisp, Thomas S. Morkham, to Josephine, third daughter of Mr J. M. lzod, South Geelong. Geelong Advertiser (Geelong, Victoria) Tuesday 4th January 1868 p.3 MARRIAGE RECORD Victorian Register of Births, Death & Marriages Registration Number: 3374/1874 FAMILY NOTICES MARRIAGES MORKHAM-PRENDER. - On the 22nd September, 1874, at Geelong, by the Rev. W. C. Bunning, Thomas F. Morkham, to Anne, third daughter of the late Luke Prender, Esq., Dublin. (Silver wedding.) Present address, Avonside, 205 Williams-road, Hawksburn. The Australasian (Melbourne, Victoria) Saturday 30th September 1899 p.55 DEATH RECORD Victorian Register of Births, Death & Marriages Registration Number: 2085/1922 Age at Death: 77 PERSONAL. Maior T. F. Morkham, at one time Secretary of Public Works, and afterwards Secretary of Lands, died last Sunday at his residence, Gladstone avenue, Malvern, aged 78. Since the beginning of the year he had been in failing health, and three weeks ago he suffered from a severe heart attack. He was born in Bath, England. With his parents he came to Victoria in 1853, and lived in Geelong. At the age of 17 he joined the volunteer service, but when he settled in Melbourne he refused the promotion, and went on the retired list. He continued to take an active interest in the service, and was vice-president of the Naval and Military Club. He resigned from the Secretaryship of Lands in September, 1893. He was trustee of the M.C.C., chairman of trustees of Albert Park Trust, a position which he had occupied for twenty-five years, and a member of Royal Park Trust. A widower, he leaves one son, Mr. Frank Morkham. The Prahran Telegraph (Melbourne, Victoria) Friday 24th March 1922 p.5 OBITUARY THE LATE MISS E. MORKHAM. The interment of the remains of the late Miss Emily Morkham, of St. James-street, Geelong West, and sister of Major Morkham, of Malvern, and the late Mrs. Benjamin Bonney, of Skene-street, Newtown, took place on Monday afternoon in the Baptist portion of the Eastern cemetery (privately) in the presence of the immediate relatives and a few personal friends. The coffin was carried from the hearse to the graveside by Messrs. Ben, George, Joseph and Edward Bonney (nephews of the deceased), and the following gentlemen supported the purple pall: - Messrs. F. Morkham (Melbourne), Lloyd Hooper, James Day, J. G. Pemberthy, H. Munro, T. and N. Bonney. Rev. A. D. Shaw, of Aberdeen-street Baptist Church, was the officiating clergyman at the house and graveside. Mr. Alex. Monro carried out the mortuary arrangements.
