Thomas Henry Hawkins of Ballarat, City of Ballarat County, VIC Australia was born circa 1862 in Ballarat. He was married to Bridget Mills Hawkins in 1892, and had children Catherine May (Hawkins) Laughton, Thomas Alfred Hawkins, Mary Hawkins, William Gordon Hawkins, Christopher Henry Hawkins, Horace Edward Hawkins, Norman Charles Hawkins, and Mary Josephine Hawkins. Thomas Hawkins died at age 65 years old in 1927.

In 1862, in the year that Thomas Henry Hawkins was born, British citizen Anna Leonowens, a widow, accepted a job in Siam (now Thailand) to teach the children and wives of the King of Siam - he had 39 wives and concubines and 82 children. Taking her son with her and sending her daughter to England for schooling, she taught in Siam for 6 years - until the King died.
