Thomas John Dight of Collingwood Australia was born in 1880 in Collingwood to William Henry Dight and Harriet Elizabeth (Hollister) Dight. He had siblings William Hollister Dight, Cana Emily Ellen Dight, Eleanor Maria May Dight, Harry Joseph Pollard Dight, Alice Maud Langhorne, Florence Augusta Jane Edwards, Sabina Lily Mati Murray, and Harriet Elizabeth Dight. Thomas Dight married Catherine Maud (Mathieson) Dight, and died at age 74 years old in 1954 in Dingley, Victoria.

In 1913, at the age of 33 years old, Thomas was alive when Henry Ford installed the first moving assembly line for the mass production of an entire automobile. It had previously taken 12 hours to assemble a whole vehicle - now it took only two hours and 30 minutes! Inspired by the production lines at flour mills, breweries, canneries and industrial bakeries, along with the disassembly of animal carcasses in Chicago’s meat-packing plants, Ford created moving belts for parts and the assembly line was born.
